Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Goldheart’, is also known by its old name ‘Oro di Bogliasco’. It is a climber with relatively thick stems.

The young shoots are reddish-pink, the nodes are short and the leaves are cordate at the base with 3 to 5 lobes. The colour of the leaves is dark green, irregularly mottled in the centre of the leaf with a golden-yellow macule. The colours show through even in the shade.

Its hardiness is excellent. It grows slowly at first, but is vigorous once well established.

History

This cultivar was discovered by the Angelo Crovetto nursery in Genoa, Italy, in 1951. It was originally called ‘Oro di Bogliasco’.
