Description
To cover the ground under trees, or for any surface you want to look good all year round, opt for the Ground Cover Ivy Planting Kit solution. It's more economical than buying individual pots. You choose from all the options in this kit, and we select the appropriate variety according to availability.
First, let us know whether you prefer green or variegated ivy. If it's variegated ivy, we'll choose yellow variegated ivy or white variegated ivy, depending on availability.
Then choose the type of development. Vigorous ivy will give you faster results, with a thicker or thinner carpet depending on the variety and growing conditions. But it will need to be pruned more often. Small-growth ivy requires a little more time, but is the most aesthetically pleasing, with its elegant mounding. It's also the most expensive, as you need more plants per m². Moderate ivy is a good compromise in terms of budget and results.
Finally, indicate the surface area of your project. If your project is larger than 5 m², order several kits to make up the desired surface area.
You will receive the number of plants required for the chosen area, at the rate of :
- 3 plants per m² for fast-growing ivy,
- 5 plants per m² in the case of moderate ivy.
- 7 plants per m² for small-growth ivy.
In all cases, plants should be at least 4 years old. They are grown in 2-liter pots.
Tips for successful planting
As soon as you receive your climbing ivy planting kit, open it so that the plants can breathe and see the light as soon as possible. Unpack carefully, taking care not to damage the plants. Soak the pots in water for about ten minutes to rewet them.
Prepare your ground:
Two keys to success are important: firstly, clean up your soil thoroughly, removing all undesirable plants and their roots. Also, make sure your soil is well loosened, so that the roots can develop easily.
Planting :
Arrange 3, 5 or 7 plants per m², depending on the type of development you've chosen. Prepare a hole 30 cm wide and 40 cm deep. Place your plant in the hole so that the collar is slightly below ground level. Create a trough around your plant to make watering easier and more efficient.
Watering :
Water generously after planting, even if it rains. One watering can for each plant. The aim of this abundant watering is to make the soil stick to the roots for a good start.
Mulching :
Mulch the entire surface of your plantation to keep the soil fresh and prevent unwanted growth.
Post-plant care :
During the first year, don't neglect watering if the weather is dry, and especially if it's hot. Once well established (after a year or two), ivy will take care of itself. If necessary, weed regularly between your ivy plants.
