Are all ivies hardy?
Ivies are highly adaptable, enabling them to withstand heat, cold and drought.
More specifically, hardiness varies according to the species:
- English ivy (Hedera helix) and Irish ivy (Hedera hibernica) are among the hardiest, with the ability to withstand temperatures as low as -15°C or even -20°C...
- Caucasian ivy (Hedera colchica) is slightly less hardy. But it can withstand temperatures down to around -15°C.
- Nepal ivy (Hedera nepalensis), which comes from the mountains of Asia, is also hardy, down to -10°C.
- The least hardy would be Canary ivy (Hedera canariensis), which can withstand temperatures down to around -7°C.
As you can see, the vast majority of ivies are hardy enough for our climate.
