Hedera cypria ‘Coon Hollow’ is a very interesting but rare ivy.

This is a cultivar of the Cyprus ivy.

It forms small, fairly dark greenish-blue leaves, criss-crossed with silvery veins to great effect.

The leaves are composed of 3 lobes, the lateral lobes being perpendicular to the central lobe, which is much longer. They are 2.5 cm long and 0.6 to 1.2 cm wide.

The cold accentuates the colours.

Cyprus ivy, Hedera cypria ‘Coon Hollow’, is a very interesting but rare ivy.

History

This cultivar is named after a ivy nursery in the United States: Coon Hollow Ivies. It was spotted by the owner of this nursery, Mr Cliff Coon, following sowing of Hedera cypria.

What is Cyprus ivy?

Cyprus ivy is a botanical ivy endemic to Cyprus, considered to be a subspecies of Iranian ivy.

Its leaves are often criss-crossed with highly decorative silver veins. Unfortunately, this ivy is all too rare.
