Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Chester’, is a magnificent pot plant.
The leaves are slightly triangular or three-lobed, with rounded apices. The base of the leaves is cordate. The leaf blade is dark green with a grey-green centre and creamy white margins. With age, the leaves change from green to a broader creamy white. The variegation is best revealed in the shade. The margins may turn red in cold weather.
It is a moderately branched plant, with long internodes. In addition to its use in pots, it is also a moderately vigorous climber.
History
This cultivar probably originated in Denmark before 1982.
