Description
Ornamental ivy - Hedera helix ‘Ballet’
In a nutshell
Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Ballet’, is a beautiful ground-covering ivy with a stunning winter colour.
The leaves are medium-sized, oblong and not lobed, with the apex usually rounded or sometimes pointed. The leaf blade is green with grey-green spots and creamy white margins. The stems are slender and highly branched, with fairly short internodes. Together they form an elegant clump.
This is a fairly fast-growing ivy that forms thin mats. It is much more at home as ground cover than as a climber. Choose a bright spot sheltered from cold winter draughts.
History
This cultivar is derived from a mutation of ‘Little Diamond’, which was discovered by Gebr. Stauss, Germany.
