Description
Ornamental ivy - Hedera helix ‘Pirouette’
In a nutshell
Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Pirouette’, is a highly original variety that lives up to its name. The leaves, with their deeply cut lobes, are pinched at the base, forcing them to curl around the stem. The petiole is extremely short.
The stems are thick but flexible. The leaf blade is light green and shiny when the leaves are young. It then turns dark green.
This is a modest-growing ivy that forms a thick, dense carpet.
History
This cultivar was discovered in 1982 by Frank Batson of Angelwood Nursery, Oregon, USA. It is a mutation of ‘Flamenco’.
