Description

Ornamental ivy - Hedera helix ‘Peter’

In a nutshell

Ornamental ivy, Hedera helix ‘Peter’, forms a dense, thin carpet. The stems have short internodes and three-lobed leaves with an elongated central lobe.

The light green leaf blade is irregularly spotted in the centre with chartreuse green or yellow. This mottling disappears with age, leaving adult leaves completely green.

Place this ivy in the sun to accentuate the sharpness of the macula, which is what makes it so interesting.

History

This cultivar was discovered by Brother Ingobert Heieck, from the monastery in Neuburg, Germany, in 1972. It is a mutation of ‘Pittsburgh’. It was introduced to the market by Stauss Nursery, Möglingen, Germany.
